Family!

Hey it was great to speak with you all last Sunday even though time was short. It was really good to hear from you all and it encouraged me to work harder and strive to be the missionary you all think I am. We had a pretty good week but like in most cases we are just having a hard time getting people to church. Fa**y and her family came but none of our other investigators were able to come. We have a lot of really solid investigators and they have so much potential we just need to be better guides in helping them a long the way.

So Fa**y finally has a solid date for the 31 of this month and now we are just trying to help her build her own testimony. She feels like she has to be perfect after baptism and is a little scared to fall after she joins the church. We are reassuring her that we all fall and that's what makes us grow as we lean on the Savior. I really hope that I can be there for her baptism but I will go where the Lord wants me to go.

Mi**el and P**ricia are also doing really well. They didn't make it to church last Sunday because they were running late and didn't want to show up late. What they didn't understand that everyone shows up late in Spanish wards but its good that he wants to be prompt. He is really eating up the book of Mormon and he really likes what he sees. He has read King Benjamin's discourse along with the first fifteen chapters of Nephi. Next he is going to read Alma 32-34 which should be really good for him.

Ro**rt and C***lina aren't doing as well. They didn't have time to meet with us this week and they didn't come to church last Sunday. I hope we can get them back on tract because they are really cool. J**ith has also dropped off the face of the earth and has no time for us. I hope they come back and realize the importance of coming to church and reading the scriptures.

President has promised us all that we will find a family this week and be able to give them a date for June so Elder Smith and I are working really hard to find them. A lot of the elders have already found families this week and a tom of miracles and showing so we are pretty excited. I have seen a lot of miracles on my mission and I can't wait to see more. I think this area is going to have a really good next couple of months with all of the cool people we are finding. The goal is to baptism monthly and we are pushing to get it started.

So last Friday we had a ward party, which we had some investigators coming to, but we also had an appointment at the same time, so elder smith and I went on a split with the bishop and ward mission leader. I went with Isaac our ward mission leader to this media referral named F**nando who we had an appointment. When we got in there we learned that his brothers are members and one of them is a return missionary. His wife didn't know much about the church but he knew a lot and he has seen the Hill Cumorah pageant a few times. I taught his wife and him along wife there eight year old son the restoration and gave them a baptismal date for June. It was a little weird teaching almost by myself but at the same time it was kind of fun. They seemed like a sweet family and they live in the same building as two member families. What are the odds? They should be pretty sweet and we will see them again this week.

So it sounds like you all are doing really good and having a good time. Congrats on making the scene for the play Mandee and keep it up. It will be fun to talk you guys again and here more about all that you are doing. Keep up the letters! Well I love you all and hope you have a great week!

Family,

Hey everyone- how's it going? Well I had a great week with a total of 22 lessons which is really great. The standard of excellence for number of lessons taught is 20 so this week we did better than excellent on lessons taught. We also did really well with other goals in which we had. We had three at church which is great but Fa**y and J**ith didn't come so that was a little frustrating.

I am really learning a lot of patience teaching Fa**y. She was supposed to be baptized this coming Sunday but she wants to wait a little longer so I'm not sure when that will be. She is ready she just needs to feel ready so we are doing all we can to help her and try to be patient. We need to work on getting over to her house more often but we are doing our best. J**ith is also giving us a hard time she cancelled our appointment last week and then skipped church. We know she is really busy but she has to make time for Heavenly Father so we are going to give her a nice talk.

We are teaching this really cool Dominican family right now who was a media referral. They are really cool and they came to church last Sunday which was great. They also fed us a really good Dominican breakfast last Saturday. They both have a really good understanding of the Restoration and Plan of Salvation and so hopefully they will keep reading and coming to church so they can get baptized next month. They have a date for the end of June.

Last Saturday we had a great miracle in finding a part member family street contacting on the way home from the day. Elder Smith contacted them and after the husband started telling us that they were catholic and happy ect. The wife told him that our lessons were really nice and that our church is perfect for there little girl. So they set up a appointment with us for the next day. When we taught them we found out that she was baptized six years ago and since moving here, lost contact with the church. The husband accepted a date for the end of June and they are really sweet. He read the pamphlet we gave him the same night and was excited to read the Book of Mormon.

We are really working hard to find families and more dates for June and July. Elder Smith and I have been working really hard and are excited by all the results we have been getting. I am afraid I will be transferred before I see the fruit of all of my hard work here. But I guess Heavenly Father knows what he is doing so I should trust Him. We have had a good time and had some really good trainings on how to find more new investigators and be a better teacher. We have been working on teaching when we find rather than setting up appointments later. It is a lot harder than it seems because you really have to be persuasive to the people to get into there home after talking to them for two minutes. But we did a really good job with it last week and I am excited for this week.

I am doing really well and I am excited to talk to you guys this Sunday. I won't have a lot of time but I will try to call around 4 my time 2 your time. I hope that is ok with your church schedule. I think you have early morning church but I don't remember. I'm glad your trip to Utah went well and you had fun with Clair. I love you all and I will talk to you this Sunday!

Hey family!

Hey we had a great week and not a bad start to this week. The Yankee's game was a lot of fun even though it rained the whole time! It was a lot of fun to get together with all of those missionaries and the stadium was amazing. While you guys have been seeing winter I got a taste of summer this last weekend. It was above ninety on Sunday and because it so humid here it was miserable. I can't wait for summer!
We had a really good week and our whole zone hit standard of five new investigators last week. Elder Smith and I only had two news by Saturday so we were praying big time to get some more. We ended up having a amazing day on Saturday and we got four new investigators that day.

We also had a really great experience and miracle with new investigators Sunday too. Our zone leaders were pushing us all to get five news this week and only a few companionships didn't have them by Sunday morning so Elder Smith and I volunteered to go help one of them out. Because their area was so far away we only had twenty minutes to find two news. Elder Smith and I split up with them and started tracking buildings. The first English person Elder Smith knocked on let them in and they taught a ten minute restoration. All the buildings I tried to get into were locked but I saw this couple sitting outside so I decide to go talk to them. The Elder I was with and I taught them both right there outside starting and ending with a prayer and so within twenty minutes we found three news for these two elders. It was a really cool miracle and it was great to see.

Monday was a great third day in a row when we had six sit down lessons and two new investigators, one from a old investigator who didn't want the missionaries to come back and one from a member referral. It was three really great days in a row and I feel really grateful for all that Heavenly Father has given me. This is also going to be a great week because of the great start and we have mission conference on Thursday.

So I have to give a big shout out and congrats to everyone! First off, congrats to Nick for graduating! That is really cool and I'm sure the Lord will bless you with a great job after graduation. Congrats to Deb and Clair for the first teeth! Soon she will be walking! Congrats to Greg for making the dance team! You continue to amaze me with all of the stuff you are doing and I know that that team is no small thing so congrats! Mom congrats on being the best mother to ever exist and doing everything that you amazing! Congrats Dad for doing such a good job as a bishop and not going crazy at home! Congrats Mandee and Savanna for yet another school play and doing so well in school, keep it up!

It sounds like you are all doing amazing and I am proud of all of you. Being on a mission has really helped me grow to have an appreciation for my family. Keep working hard and remember if you're not moving forward you are moving backwards! I love you all and hope you have a great week. Sorry I have to cut it short I've run out of time on the computer. I love you all have a great week!

Hello family!

Well I am with Elder Smith, again. Lol. I served with him for two cycles in Yonkers and now we are back together here in the Bronx. He only has one cycle left after this one so if one of us doesn't get transferred next time I will probably be here until August. It will be a great chance to serve with him again and hopefully we will find another P**la. Her daughter now has a baptismal date as well as one of her friends so it is great to see some fruit from my work in Yonkers.

We had a fairly good week with a lot of work. We had a total of nineteen lessons which is really good for us but no one came to church which was a bummer. Fa**y now has a date for next month and she is progressing well. We are trying to work on her testimony of the book of Mormon by giving her special reading assignments. She has quit coffee but they didn't come to church which isn't good. I know she will keep progressing and keep her commitment to be baptized.

Last Sunday I started to realize how hard a mission is. We had a really great week and had a lot of people lined up for church but none of them came through. I don't mind walking 10 miles a day with broken feet or getting doors slammed in my face over and over again, but I can't take the fact that we present such an amazing opportunity to people and they don't realize it. I am starting to think like Satan and want to take away everyone's agency! Lol. I just wish I could better show these people the blessings I have received and the blessings they could receive by sampling going to church, reading the scriptures and praying.

What I know and what keeps me going is I know there are people out there, who need to hear my testimony. I know out of the thousands of people I talk to, a few need to hear my voice. I am doing everything I can to lose myself to this work and giving everything I have to the Savior. I have been blessed all throughout my life and I am trying to give the only thing that is really mine to give, my will and all of my heart. Heavenly Father has given me my time, my life, family, everything. I can give my will to him. I strive to be like the Savior and say, not my will but thy will be done.

Well it sounds like everyone is doing great there and staying on track. The longer the girls put off driving the better. Less boys/dates, less late nights, and a perfectly good car when I get back! Dad asked about my area which is the Bronx, the craziest city here in New York. There are buildings everywhere with a few little parks here and there. New York is really green so there are trees and things but mostly it's all buildings. I live in one of the poorest zip codes in the states, so there are a lot of really poor people. It is pretty gross here but like dad said I don't really care about my area I am just trying to build the people. I have really learned a lot from the scriptures and the examples of the apostles and prophets. I have received a love for the scriptures that I never thought I would have.Well I love you all and thank you for your support and encouragement.

Anything from Oregon would be great, just make sure you flat rate the package so you don't have to pay for the weight. I am heading off to go see the Yankee's game with about twenty other missionaries. I love you all and I will talk to you next week!

Hey family,

Everything here is going great! We had a good week last week and a great start to this week. My companion got transferred and I am waiting for my new one to come down from up state. A lot of the members were really sad to see him go because he had been here so long. I will also miss him because I learned a lot from being with him. We got along fairly well and I sure learned a lot from being his companion. I am really falling in love with this area and our ward. We have a lot of great members and I really enjoy the work here in the Bronx. We move through so many people so fast it is easy to stay busy.

A lot of our new investigators have been dropping off and we are going to have to start finding some new people to teach. It is really sad to see people reject the truth and make choices that will hinder there spiritual growth. I remember coming out of our last appointment with that family of five and just feeling so sorry for them. I can't do anything if they don't want to listen and the fact that I can't do anything kills me.

On a positive note we found two new investigators on Monday who were old investigators so hopefully they will have a change of heart. Again, I am love being a missionary and working here in this area.

At the old people's center where we do service work we had a great experience. Missionaries haven't been doing service there for a long time but at first the person who runs it was really strict in saying that we couldn't proselyte or talk about the church. I guess at first they couldn't even wear their tags. But then last week the person who runs it thanked us and asked us if we could do some sort of presentation about our church for the center. She was really impressed by us and everyone there really loves having us there. So yesterday we showed "Finding faith in Christ" and did a question and answer thing. A good amount of people came and it was really good to help people understand our beliefs. They even asked us to do it again some time so that should be great.

I am learning a lot by being a missionary. I never thought I would change as much as I have but I have really learned a lot. I am focusing on being more of a charitable missionary vs. a dutiful missionary. I need to put my whole heart into this work and focus on this work as much as possible. I have been going through the New Testament and have learned so much about the attributes of Christ and the teachings he gave to us. I am grateful for all that He has done and I strive to become more like Him every day.

So it sounds like everyone is doing fairly well and all staying busy. I like the idea of the clean up service project. A lot of missionary work is just having a good public face. Thank you so much for the Easter package I enjoyed the candy and power bars. Also thank you grandma for the package. Thank you all for all of the support and help you have given me. I love you all and hope you have a great week!

Family,

We had a really great week this past week and I spiritual high from the weekend. I really enjoyed conference and loved seeing all of the themes and patterns from the leaders of our church. Then yesterday we had mission conference which is always really good and then we went to the temple today. I have seen so many miracles this week and I am really grateful for the blessing I have received.

Last week I received a stronger testimony from street contacting and this week my testimony on media referrals grew. On Monday, from a media referral, we found a family of five new investigators. On Tuesday we found another from a recent blitz. Wednesday we got three more news from a media referral and then Thursday we found yet another new investigator. We had a total of ten new investigators and did really well with our other goals. We had three at church to see conference which was a little below our goal but we did really well with all of our other goals. Ml and her husband accepted a date last Sunday which was another miracle. He hasn't been to church yet but she has come and really liked it. I am excited for them and I hope to see them progress. Fy is also doing well but she hasn't accepted a date for baptism. We are doing our best to be patient and help her grow a testimony. I am really excited to see how every one progresses.

I really enjoyed conference and I learned a lot about myself and how I can improve. Elder Holland's talk was really amazing, and I enjoyed the one about temples. I learned I need to focus on getting people to the temple instead of just baptism. They were all really good and I learned a lot about the atonement and how to better apply myself to the mission. Zone conference was also really good and I learned a lot about being a charitable missionary instead of a dutiful missionary. I need to put my whole heart into this work and not just do this because I am suppose to. This has been a great opportunity to learn and grow. It is great to hear that the family is doing so well. You all sound like you are striving to do your part in the Lord's kingdom and I am proud of you all. I am really grateful for my family and the example they have been for me. I want to be a father just like my father and marry someone as good as my mother. You have done an amazing job as parents and even though I gave you a really hard time, I have learned a lot. Thank you for being supportive and pushing me to do my best. I love you all.

Elder Sorensen

PS. I have been receiving letters from grandma and she let me in on the fact that she was preparing for the temple again. I have been praying really hard for her and now that the time has come I am so proud of her. I know that eternal families are one of the greatest blessings we can receive and I will be grateful to have her with me.
